The highlight of his career so far came on 26 June 2022 at Uttoxeter, where he landed a Class 1 race — one of the biggest prizes in British racing. It remains his only top-level win, but reaching that standard at all within his first two years of training tells you this is not a yard simply filling out the lower end of the card.

His most productive working relationship is with jockey Andrew Mullen, who has ridden 88 times for the yard and come home in front on 13 of those occasions — a win rate of around 1 in every 7 rides, or 15%. That is a partnership worth tracking. But if there is one combination that really catches the eye, it is Haslam with Yorkshire Glory: 9 wins from 28 races together. Winning nearly 1 in every 3 races with the same horse is the kind of record that suggests a trainer who really understands what his horse needs and how to keep it in form.

One particularly useful detail about Haslam's record is how well his horses perform on normal ground conditions. On a standard, everyday surface — not too wet, not too firm — his runners win 20 from 90 races, a rate of 22%, or roughly 1 in every 4 to 5. That is noticeably better than his overall average, and it suggests his horses are prepared and suited to racing at their best when the ground is not throwing up any complications. Experienced punters will note that and adjust accordingly.

Still only four years in, Haslam is operating in a competitive sport where many trainers take a decade to reach 150 winners. The Class 1 win at Uttoxeter proved he can compete on the biggest days. The numbers since suggest he is not a one-season wonder. The next question is whether he can add a second top-level win to his name — and on this evidence, it feels like a matter of when rather than if.
