That sole career win came at Newcastle back in March, and for a young horse, getting off the mark is always a significant moment. It takes the pressure off and gives both horse and trainer something to build on. The question since then has been whether Liquid Cooled can kick on and build consistency, and the last six runs show a mixed picture: two distant finishes were followed by a win, then a placed effort, and more recently a fourth and a fifth. There's ability in there — it's just not showing up every week.
The horse is trained by Ben Haslam at Middleham Moor in North Yorkshire, one of racing's great training centres, nestled high on the moors above Wensleydale. Haslam has had 35 winners this season, which tells you the yard knows how to get horses ready to perform. With Liquid Cooled having raced just one day ago, it's clearly being kept busy, and a busy schedule at this age often means a trainer is actively searching for the right opportunity — the right track, the right conditions — to unlock more of what the horse can do.
At three, with seven races under its belt and a win already on the board, Liquid Cooled is exactly the kind of horse that can surprise you. Some horses take time to mature, and the form from the past month suggests the penny may slowly be dropping. Worth keeping an eye on.
