Wen Moon

Trained by Ben Haslam at Middleham Moor in North Yorkshire, Wen Moon is part of a yard that has been firing on all cylinders, sending out 35 winners already this season. Most of those 37 races have come in Class 4 company — the bread-and-butter middle tier of British racing, a step or two below the top level — and at that grade the horse has won just 1 from 14, or around 1 in every 14, which tells you this is a competitive level that doesn't give easy results. Andrew Mullen has ridden Wen Moon more than anyone else, partnering the horse in 12 of those races for a single win together — modest figures, but the pair clearly have an established working relationship.

What makes Wen Moon worth keeping an eye on right now is the recent form. The last six runs read 3-3-15-1-5-6, and that "1" — a win at Musselburgh in November 2025 on what was presumably a testing autumn surface — is sandwiched between some perfectly respectable finishes. The horse raced just one day ago, so the team is clearly keeping busy. The first career win came at Ripon back in July 2022, which means Wen Moon has been around long enough to know what it's doing, and at six years old is hitting a mature, experienced stage of its career. When the clouds roll in and the ground softens up, this is a horse whose name is worth remembering.
