What these words mean
Underrated horse
We think this horse has a better chance than the bookmakers' odds suggest.
Our top pick
The horse with the highest TrackLab Score in the race.
TrackLab Score
Our model's estimate of a horse's chance of winning, as a number out of 100. The scores in a race add up to 100.
Ground
How the going was on the day, from Firm (hard and dry) to Heavy (very wet and muddy). On all-weather tracks it's Standard, Fast or Slow.
Race level (Class)
From Class 1 (elite) down to Class 7 (lowest).
Group, Grade and Listed
The top races. Group 1 on the Flat and Grade 1 over jumps are the highest level, then 2 and 3. Listed races sit just below.
Handicap
The handicapper gives better horses more weight to carry, so in theory they'd all finish together.
Maiden
A race for horses that haven't won yet.
Novice
A race for horses that are new to this type of race.
Chase, hurdle and bumper
Chase: jumps over fences. Hurdle: jumps over low hurdles. Bumper: a flat race for young jump horses.
Distance (m and f)
m is a mile and f a furlong, about 200 metres; 8 furlongs make a mile.
Each way
A bet that pays out if your horse wins or finishes in the top 3 (how far down it pays varies by race). It is really two bets.
Weight
How much the horse carries, including the jockey. 9st 5lb means nine stone five pounds.
Jockey claim
An apprentice jockey can claim a weight discount, so the horse carries a little less.
Headgear
Blinkers, visor, cheekpieces, tongue tie, hood and eyeshield change what the horse sees or feels.

Why this score
+R. Havlin has won 11.3% of their races in their career. That steady record counts for a lot.
+Finished 1st in the last race, which is a good result. A good last run suggests the horse is in good shape.
−This horse is not suited by Standard ground. The ground can change a horse's chances a lot.
TrackLab Insight
Printing Money is the only course winner in the field after his victory here just 31 days ago and is the favourite at 7/4 for good reason. He wins roughly 1 in 4 when racing over 7 furlongs to a mile—his sweet spot—and has proved he can handle this track and distance, though a volatile form line includes a heavy ninth-place defeat in between his best efforts.

Why this score
+Has only raced on this type of ground once or twice, so it is hard to say if it suits the horse.
+Has raced here 1 time without winning. This course has not suited the horse so far.
−12 runners today is not the number this horse wants. The number of runners changes how a race is run.
TrackLab Insight
Pride's Queen is the lowest-rated runner in the field and carries the lightest weight as a result, but has raced only three times and has no wins or top-3 finishes to her name. She is trained by Marco Botti, a high-volume winner this season, but her form across three races (5-10-8) offers little evidence of a breakthrough being imminent.

+O. Murphy has a good 22.7% record here. Knowing the course is one of a jockey's biggest strengths.
+A 7.2% overall win rate for J. S. Moore. That suggests a trainer who picks the right races for their horses.
−J. S. Moore has a 0% win rate at this course. It is not their strongest track. Some stables do better at some tracks than others.
TrackLab Insight
The most experienced runner in the field with ten races behind her, Global Success has four top-3 finishes but no wins yet—and crucially, has never raced on normal ground like today. She showed some promise with a third and a fourth in recent outings, but a ninth-place finish 16 days ago suggests form is unreliable heading into this race.
Never raced on normal groundMost experienced (10 runs, field avg 4)
+Has only raced on this type of ground once or twice, so it is hard to say if it suits the horse.
+An 11.1% overall win rate for J. Osborne. That suggests a trainer who picks the right races for their horses.
−12 runners today is not the number this horse wants. The number of runners changes how a race is run.
TrackLab Insight
Hello You Ten has picked up three top-3 finishes from six races and most recently ran second just 11 days ago, showing he is competitive at this level. The step up in recent efforts and three finished in the top 3 finishes suggest a progressive profile, though he remains winless after half a dozen attempts.
+R. & Peter Fahey wins 13.8% of their races at this course. Some trainers aim horses at particular tracks, and this one does well here.
+O. Orr has won 11.0% of their races in their career. That steady record counts for a lot.
−The Standard ground does not suit this horse. The wrong ground can turn a contender into an also-ran.
TrackLab Insight
Navy Light has two finished in the top 3 finishes from four races including a second and a third, but has never run on normal ground and is taking a step up in this competitive contest. His most recent run was a month ago, so there may be some ring rust to shake off after the break.
+Very little experience on today's ground. With so few runs, we cannot say if it suits the horse.
+J. Mitchell wins 16.9% of their races at this course. Knowing the track is an advantage for any jockey.
−Only 10th last time out. That is not what we want to see before today's race.
TrackLab Insight
Honeymoon Bear shows a consistent middle-of-the-field profile across four races (4-4-4-7) but has never broken into the winner's circle or managed a top-3 finish, so there is uncertainty about whether she can find improvement. Her trainer's yard has sent out winners already this season, suggesting there is ability available in the stable.
+Has only raced on this type of ground once or twice, so it is hard to say if it suits the horse.
+Has run 2 times at this track with no wins yet. Some horses do not take to some courses.
−M. Smith wins 0% of their races overall. That is below the average for professional jockeys.
TrackLab Insight
Ventura Power has finished fourth twice in his last five races and is priced at 17/2, suggesting the market sees him as a contender despite carrying no wins yet. He drew a high-numbered gate in a field where low draws have historically performed better at this distance, which is a tactical disadvantage.
+Very little experience on today's ground. With so few runs, we cannot say if it suits the horse.
+A 13.2% overall win rate for C. Lee. Good jockeys make better decisions during a race.
−Last raced 30 days ago. That is a normal gap between runs.
TrackLab Insight
Miss You Nights has been absent for 90 days before her most recent outing and carries limited race experience with just three starts to her name, never finishing better than fourth. She finished fifth just days ago at a different track, so stamina and adaptability to normal ground from a long break are both unknowns here.
Lightly raced (3 career races)Absent 90 days (longest in field)
+A 9.4% overall win rate for M. Hammond. That suggests a trainer who picks the right races for their horses.
+An average finish of 4.7 over the last three races. Finishing near the front this often is a good sign.
−M. Hammond wins only 0% of the time here. That weak record at this course counts against the horse.
TrackLab Insight
Two races into his career and Odegaard has finished fourth and fifth, with no experience on normal ground to draw from. He's drawn in a low-number slot which offers a small advantage at this track, but his form and limited experience put him among the outsiders in a competitive twelve-runner field.
Never raced on normal groundLightly raced (2 career races)
+Has only raced on this type of ground once or twice, so it is hard to say if it suits the horse.
+J. Haynes wins 7.2% of all their races. That is a strong record. A jockey who wins often gives a horse a better chance.
−This horse is not suited by Standard ground. The ground can change a horse's chances a lot.
TrackLab Insight
Carrow Road has run four times without a win or a top-3 finish, with his most recent two outings bringing a ninth and a twelfth-place defeat—form that suggests he is struggling at this level. At 28/1, he is priced accordingly among the field's outsiders.
+J. Portman wins 8.0% of all their races. That is a solid record. Good trainers get horses ready well and pick the right races.
+With a 12.3% win rate overall, H. Davies is one of the more dependable riders.
−J. Portman has a 0% win rate at this course. It is not their strongest track. Some stables do better at some tracks than others.
TrackLab Insight
Cubbie's Dream has raced three times without breaking the frame and has never run on normal ground, making this her first real test at this surface. She is drawn high in a race where low numbers have shown a historical edge, adding to the tactical difficulties she faces.

TrackLab Insight
Ten Of Clubs showed promise with three straight top-3 finishes earlier in his career but has now gone two races without placing, including an eleventh-place finish 53 days ago. His most recent run was a month back, leaving questions about whether he has moved forward or backward from that point.
Each way is two equal bets. Half your total goes on the horse to win. Half goes on it to finish in the top 3.
If it wins, both bets pay.
If it finishes 2nd or 3rd, only the top-3 part pays. Some races pay 4th or 5th too, and some only 2nd. The top-3 part pays a fraction of the win odds, often 1/4 or 1/5.
Otherwise, both bets lose.
On the bookmaker's slip, the amount box is per bet. Enter half your total. For example, £0.50 each way on the slip is £1 in all.
Ask your bookmaker which finishing positions pay, and what fraction of the win odds they pay

How odds work
The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1.
The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win, but the more you'd win if it does.
A small first number (like 8/13) means bookmakers think the horse is more likely to win. At 8/13, £13 wins £8. Evens means £1 wins £1.
