A trainer hitting that kind of volume isn't running horses for fun — they know which horses have ability and which don't, and the fact that Ventura Power keeps getting entries suggests Boughey believes there is something worth drawing out. At two years old, with just two races under its belt, there is plenty of time for things to click.

For now, the record is a blank — zero wins, zero places from two races — but that is not necessarily the damning verdict it might look like. Young horses often need time to work out what racing is actually about. The next run will be the one to watch.
