The market favourite and easily the most experienced runner in the field with 68 races under its belt — more than double the field average. Crucially, it has won over this exact course and distance before, which is a strong tick, and the jockey-trainer partnership wins roughly once in every seven races together. A sixth at Southwell last time is a minor blot, but this is the most solid profile in the race.

Jackie Brown showed something useful last time out, finishing third at Ffos Las 18 days ago, and has a decent record on normal ground which could suit here. The jockey-trainer partnership hasn't clicked yet with no wins from three races together, and at a win rate of roughly one in 17, it needs everything to fall right. Honest rather than exciting.
One of the more successful in the field (2 career wins)
The best career win rate in the field at roughly one in eight, and three consecutive top-three finishes going into today — that's the most eye-catching recent form here. A win at Brighton last month followed by a placed run suggests this four-year-old has found its feet. The worry is it has never won on the type of ground that Nottingham can provide, but the momentum is hard to ignore.

Here's something interesting: Rinky Tinky Tinky is one of the few course winners in this field, having won here at Nottingham previously. The problem is that recent form — sixth here 44 days ago, fifth at Bath before that — hasn't built on it, and it has never won on the standard ground type that often comes up at Nottingham. The course form is a real plus, but it needs to find more.

Desert Master has raced 47 times and won just twice — about once every 24 outings — but it does finish in the money more than you'd expect, placing 12 times in total. A near-miss at Doncaster 41 days ago and a decent fourth at Wetherby since suggest it's in reasonable shape, though last week's seventh at Thirsk was a step back. Competitive without ever quite winning.

"Another who is bred to be both fast and early. The dam was a useful black-type two-year-old for us but so far hasn't produced anything. Hopefully by sending her to Blue Point she can enjoy some overdue success. I have him entered this week and again he has done plenty of work. 19-04-23"
One of the higher-rated horses in the field on official figures, but that rating looks hard to justify given the recent form — seventh at Pontefract and seventh at Redcar either side of a win at Carlisle six weeks ago. It has never won on the standard ground type and has a poor record on left-handed tracks, which could count against it here. The win at Carlisle looks increasingly isolated.

Our selection, but the 123-day absence is the longest in the field and that's a real concern — horses can lose their edge in that time. What works in its favour is that this 5f trip is genuinely proven for this horse, with both career wins coming at this distance. The form trend has been quietly improving, but rivals are closely matched and confidence here is low.

Sixty races into its career and Antiphon has just five wins to show for it — roughly one in every 12 outings. The two most recent runs were dismal (10th and 9th), and while cheekpieces are fitted to sharpen focus, it has never won on normal or fast ground, which is a serious concern here. Hard to make a case for this one.

Twelve races in and still looking for a first win — the only horse in the field yet to get off the mark. It does carry the lowest weight in the race, which is a small advantage, and a third-place finish at Wolverhampton 10 days ago shows it's in reasonable form. But until it proves it can win, it's hard to put it ahead of rivals with winning form.
How do odds work? The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. So 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1. The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win — but the more you'd win if it does.
