Trainer Antony Brittain, based at Warthill in North Yorkshire, has had a solid season with 23 winners already, and he has always believed in the horse's potential. When asked about Desert Master in early 2023, Brittain noted the horse was bred to be both fast and early, a product of speed bloodlines designed to succeed at short distances. The trainer has kept entering the horse regularly and ensuring it is well prepared, which suggests genuine faith in its ability to pick up a race at the right moment. Cam Hardie, the horse's usual rider, has had no luck aboard—0 wins from 21 races together—which may or may not matter if the yard decide a change is needed.

What makes Desert Master worth watching is not flashy statistics but rather the niche it occupies. It is an honest, limited horse that knows where it wins: short races, fast ground, at Southwell, where familiarity clearly counts. It raced just a day ago, so it remains active, but the form dip is real—no win in the last six races and recent placings that read 7-6-3-4-7. That said, a horse that can win at nearly 30 per cent over the sprint trip has earned the right to be aimed at the races where it belongs. Desert Master will not set the world alight, but there are still winnable races out there if handled correctly.
