What these words mean
Underrated horse
We think this horse has a better chance than the bookmakers' odds suggest.
Our top pick
The horse with the highest TrackLab Score in the race.
TrackLab Score
Our model's estimate of a horse's chance, as a percentage. The scores in a race add up to 100%.
Ground
How the going was on the day, from Firm (hard and dry) to Heavy (very wet and muddy). On all-weather tracks it's Standard, Fast or Slow.
Race level (Class)
From Class 1 (elite) down to Class 7 (lowest).
Group, Grade and Listed
The top races. Group 1 on the Flat and Grade 1 over jumps are the highest level, then 2 and 3. Listed races sit just below.
Handicap
The handicapper gives better horses more weight to carry, so in theory they'd all finish together.
Maiden
A race for horses that haven't won yet.
Novice
A race for horses that are new to this type of race.
Chase, hurdle and bumper
Chase: jumps over fences. Hurdle: jumps over low hurdles. Bumper: a flat race for young jump horses.
Distance (m and f)
m is a mile and f a furlong, about 200 metres; 8 furlongs make a mile.
Each way
A bet that pays out if your horse wins or finishes in a place. It is really two bets.
Weight
How much the horse carries, including the jockey. 9st 5lb means nine stone five pounds.
Jockey claim
An apprentice jockey can claim a weight discount, so the horse carries a little less.
Headgear
Blinkers, visor, cheekpieces, tongue tie, hood and eyeshield change what the horse sees or feels.
+A 5-runner race works well for this horse. The number of runners changes the pace and how much room a horse has.
+A 13.2% overall win rate for H. de Bromhead. That suggests a trainer who picks the right races for their horses.
−Not rated highly by the official rater. The rating reflects what the horse has done so far, and it is modest.
TrackLab Insight
Echoing Silence boasts the standout career win rate here at 50% — 3 wins from just 6 races — and three consecutive wins before her recent slump suggest real ability at this level. However, she finished 7th at Punchestown 170 days ago and hasn't won since, so the current form line raises questions about whether that early form still holds true.

Why this score
+A 29.1% win rate at this course for W. P. Mullins. Trainers who know a course often send out their horses well suited to it.
+P. Townend has a good 25.9% record here. Knowing the course is one of a jockey's biggest strengths.
−P. Townend has a 21.5% overall win rate, which is lower than we would like to see. A jockey who wins less often can hold back even a good horse.
TrackLab Insight
Future Prospect is the market favourite and for good reason: she thrives on soft ground with 2 wins from 4 races in those conditions, and she's strung together three consecutive top-3 finishes most recently. Her weakness is firm ground (0 wins from 5 starts), but today's soft conditions suit her perfectly and she's clearly a live contender despite a modest overall win rate of 17%.

Why this score
+This is a 5-runner race, and the size suits this horse. Some horses prefer a small field with less traffic. Others do well in a crowd.
+Today's race is over 2m 4½f. That distance looks right for this horse. Running over the right distance matters a lot.
−A 3.7% record at this course for T. Cooper. This is not a track where the trainer has done well.
TrackLab Insight
Amen Kate has been off the track for 196 days — the longest absence in this field — after pulling up at Fairyhouse and finishing well beaten at Cheltenham. She does hold a solid 30% career win rate from 10 races, but the long layoff and poor recent form make her a question mark in a tight contest where rivals have raced much more recently.
+Has only raced on this type of ground once or twice, so it is hard to say if it suits the horse.
+5 runners today is a good number for this horse. The number of runners affects how a race is run.
−The official rating suggests this horse has work to do. Lower-rated horses need to improve to win.
TrackLab Insight
Miss Fourie is the only horse in this field with a course win at Limerick, a genuine edge that shouldn't be overlooked. At nine years old with just 3 wins from 21 races (14% win rate), she's not a prolific winner, and her last victory came over two years ago — but her recent third at Roscommon shows she can still compete on this ground.

Why this score
+Has raced 3 times on this ground with a low win rate. Today's ground may not suit it.
+This is a 5-runner race, and the size suits this horse. Some horses prefer a small field with less traffic. Others do well in a crowd.
−B. Hayes wins 7.2% of their races overall. That is below the average for professional jockeys.
TrackLab Insight
Straight Home is a solid operator with 4 wins from 17 races (roughly 1 in 4), second-rated in the field by merit, and she's raced twice in the last month to stay sharp. Soft ground is her weak spot (0 wins from 3 starts on yielding conditions), and that's a real concern given today's conditions, making her vulnerable despite solid recent form.
Each way is two equal bets. Half your total goes on the horse to win. Half goes on it to finish in the top 3.
If it wins, both bets pay.
If it finishes 2nd or 3rd, only the top-3 part pays. Some races pay 4th or 5th too, and some only 2nd. The top-3 part pays a fraction of the win odds, often 1/4 or 1/5.
Otherwise, both bets lose.
On the bookmaker's slip, the amount box is per bet. Enter half your total. For example, £0.50 each way on the slip is £1 in all.
Ask your bookmaker which finishing positions pay, and what fraction of the win odds they pay
On your bookmaker's bet slip, tick 'Each way' before you place the bet.

How odds work
The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1.
The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win, but the more you'd win if it does.
A small first number (like 8/13) means bookmakers think the horse is more likely to win. At 8/13, £13 wins £8. Evens means £1 wins £1.
