When a trainer keeps putting you up that regularly and you keep delivering at that rate, there's genuine trust on both sides.

Coen has also shown a clear preference for fast, dry ground, winning 2 from 12 races in those conditions — a 17% rate that edges ahead of his season average and suggests he rides with a little more confidence when the track is quick underfoot. At Fairyhouse specifically, he has been almost impossible to ignore, converting 5 of his 12 rides there into winners. That's nearly 1 in every 2, and at a track where plenty of good jockeys come and go without making much impression, that kind of record is the sort of thing trainers notice when they're deciding who to call.

The headline on his CV so far is a Class 1 win at Goodwood — one of the top races in Britain, at one of the country's most celebrated courses. Getting to the top table once in four years is an achievement in itself; the question is how often he can get back there. On current evidence, he's riding with enough volume, enough consistency, and enough of a spark in the right conditions to suggest it won't be a one-off.
