Like stablemate Pilgrim's Progress, Zooella is a two-year-old returning from around seven months off the track — that is a long time for a young horse with only four races under her belt. She carries the lightest weight in the field, which is an advantage, and she has placed in three of her four career races, so she is no stranger to being competitive. The trainer-jockey partnership here wins nearly 1 in 5 races together, which is a solid record, but the fitness question after such a long break is real.

TrackLab Insight
By far the most experienced horse in this field with 32 career races, compared to an average of just 8 for her rivals — and she arrives in decent nick, winning at Yarmouth and then finishing third at Newmarket in her last two outings. She is rated 6 points below the field average and carries the second-lowest weight, but her recent form is the best it has been in a while. The high draw in stall 7 is a minor negative at this course and distance.

Trainer Quotes
May 2024
"She won at 50-1 on her first run at Wolverhampton, over 7f, in early April. I paid very little money for her but I just liked her as she was walking around the paddock. She had a little bit of an ugly right-handed ankle but that didn't bother me as I bought her off my own bat and turned her out for two months. She has very good owners in Premier Racing, who own 60 per cent of her with two of my other owners. They've had five horses with me and they've all won- three of them, including her, won first time out. The thing is that by winning first time out the handicapper will take a dim view of that, so my view, like my dad's, is that you're better off going to a decent fillies' race, so we ran her in a 6f Listed race at Chelmsford last week. 08-05-24"

TrackLab Insight
The only horse in this field who has actually won at Lingfield — she did it first time of asking here, which is a rare and meaningful edge over her rivals. However, she was beaten 15 lengths at Wolverhampton last time out, so she needs to bounce back sharply from that. The 66-day break since that poor run adds a layer of uncertainty, even if her course record gives reason for hope.

Night Shining has finished fourth in three races in a row — consistent, but consistently not quite good enough. More concerning is that she has never raced on normal ground before, so today's conditions are an unknown quantity, and she steps up three class levels compared to recent runs. The trainer-jockey combination wins roughly 1 in every 5 races together, which is a genuine positive, but the form book makes it hard to be optimistic.

TrackLab Insight
The youngest horse in the field at just two years old, and the one who has been off the track the longest — 208 days is a significant absence heading into a competitive sprint. Her best run was a narrow second here at Lingfield last time, beaten less than a length, which is genuinely encouraging form for this track. The key question is whether a horse this lightly raced can return from such a long break and reproduce that level.

Despite sharing the joint-highest rating in the field, Sydney Rock is drifting out to 17-1 in the market, which is a striking mismatch. She has run second three times in four career races, so she clearly knows how to compete — but a 10th-place finish at Newbury last time, beaten over 10 lengths, is hard to ignore. This is a new jockey pairing with no previous record together, which adds another unknown.

TrackLab Insight
The market favourite and, alongside Sydney Rock, one of the two top-rated horses in the field — but she has the best overall win rate here, winning roughly 1 in every 4 races across her career. She arrives on the back of a win at Goodwood last month, which is the kind of timely form that justifies favouritism in a race like this. The cheekpieces she wears are designed to sharpen focus, and with a low draw in stall 2, she gets a small positional bonus too.

TrackLab Insight
The longest shot in the field at 41-1, and the data does little to argue against that assessment — no wins and no place finishes from six career races, with a latest run that saw her beaten nearly 15 lengths at Newbury. Her official rating is the lowest in the field, sitting 5 points below the average. There is nothing in the record to suggest a turnaround here.

How do odds work? The first number is what you win, the second is what you bet. So 5/2 means you win £5 for every £2. 4/1 means you win £4 for every £1. The bigger the first number, the less likely bookmakers think the horse will win — but the more you'd win if it does.
