The eight-year-old is trained by Hanmer out of Tattenhall in Cheshire, a yard that has sent out 19 winners already this season — so this isn't a struggling operation. The horse has been placed nine times without winning, which means he keeps turning up and running honestly even when the top prize escapes him. His best work comes over longer distances, at two miles and beyond, where he has won 2 of his 15 races at that trip — a win rate of 13%, comfortably his strongest category. Compare that to his overall record and you can see the pattern: get him far enough around the track and he becomes a different proposition.

His most recent win came at Bangor-on-Dee in April 2025, and his recent form reads 4-10-3-1-5-7 — that third place and win sitting in the middle of the sequence show he's capable of hitting the frame when things fall right. He raced just one day ago, so he's very much mid-campaign and in the mix. His first ever win came at Stratford-on-Avon in May 2024, so he was already seven before he got off the mark — a late bloomer if ever there was one.

What makes this genuinely worth watching is what Hanmer said recently. He described Fandabidozi as a big, keen horse who travels best on fast, dry ground — and hinted that summer jumping, particularly over fences rather than hurdles, could be where he finds another gear entirely. There's a suggestion that switching to fences is something to get excited about, and trainers don't usually use the word "exciting" about a horse they've written off. He's also pencilled in to run on the Flat as part of his summer preparation.

Two wins from 34 races is a thin return, yes. But an honest horse, a trainer who clearly believes there's more to come, and a potential switch to fences over the summer? That's enough to keep him on your radar.
