Fandabidozi

Gary Hanmer, who trains out of Tattenhall in Cheshire and has sent out 19 winners already this season, describes Fandabidozi as a big, keen horse who needs fast, dry ground to show his best. That's useful information. A lot of horses at this level are consistent plodders who chug around in any conditions; Fandabidozi is more of a specialist, and knowing what he needs makes him easier to follow. His last win came at Bangor-on-Dee in April 2025, and the evidence of his form since suggests he hasn't fallen off — he's finished third, first, third, and fourth in four of his last six races. He's not a winner every week, but he's reliably in the conversation.

The most interesting number in his record is at distances over two miles, where he's won 2 from 15 races — a 13% win rate, or roughly 1 in every 8. That might not sound dramatic, but it's twice his overall rate, and it tells you something meaningful: when races get long and stamina starts to matter, Fandabidozi finds another gear. He typically runs at Class 4 level, which sits in the middle of the racing pyramid — not the elite stuff, but a competitive enough grade where there are no easy days.

What makes Hanmer genuinely excited, though, is what's coming. He's flagged that Fandabidozi will head back to flat racing this summer before eventually going over fences — jumping the larger obstacles rather than hurdles — and that prospect has the trainer talking about him in terms you don't usually hear at this level. A big, keen horse who moves well on fast ground and is still maturing at eight has real room to surprise people. Fandabidozi raced just yesterday and is very much in active training, so this isn't a horse being nursed along — he's fit, he's busy, and according to his trainer, the best may still be ahead of him.
