The most striking thing in Distinction's record is what happens at Beverley. Three wins from just 7 races there is a genuinely impressive return — that's nearly 1 in every 2 races, at a track where most horses are happy just to get round. Something about that course suits this horse, whether it's the shape of the track, the crowds, the grass, whatever it is — Beverley brings out the best in Distinction in a way most other venues simply don't.

Wet or muddy ground also works in its favour. Three wins from 14 races on soft or heavy ground gives a win rate of 21%, or just over 1 in 5 — double what it manages overall. On a wet autumn card, Distinction becomes meaningfully more interesting. The distance sweet spot is a mile and three to a mile and four furlongs: 2 wins from 10 races at those trips, another 20% return.

The honest part of the picture is that Distinction hasn't won since Kempton Park in August 2025 — over 11 months ago — and the last six runs read 5-6-3-8-6-5, which is consistent without being spectacular. It raced just yesterday, so the legs are still fresh in the memory. At Class 6, the level this horse usually competes at, it wins 4 from 33 — about 1 in 8. Not a banker, but a horse with a very clear profile: point it at Beverley, in the wet, over a mile and a half, with McDonald on board, and it becomes a lot more than just a number on a racecard.
