Some jockeys simply ride differently when the ground gets testing: more patient, more willing to wait. That number is a small sample, but it's the kind of detail that sticks in a trainer's mind when the forecast turns wet.

Wolverhampton is the other place to note. Three winners from 32 races there might not sound dramatic, but course form matters in racing, and returning to a track where you've won before carries real value. Wolverhampton is an all-weather, floodlit circuit — a very different feel from a traditional grass track — and jockeys who read it well tend to keep getting booked there. Coughlan has clearly made an impression.

The slight dip this season is worth watching rather than worrying about. She's still riding in volume, still picking up rides from a quality trainer, and still posting better numbers in specific conditions. Four years in, with 37 winners and a full book of rides, the career is very much in progress.
