Sturlasson

Southwell has become his spiritual home. Sturlasson has won two of his four races there, including a Class 2 win on 21 November 2025 — nearly nine months ago now. That victory, at a top level of racing, showed what he is capable of on his day. Since then, though, he has been chasing that form without success. His last six races tell the story: two fourth-place finishes, a ninth, a fifth, and a second, with only one result — a fourth at Southwell itself — breaking that sequence. He is not running badly, but he is not winning either.

The partnership with jockey Stevie Donohoe has been his most productive. They have won twice from six races together (33%), which is well above his general win rate and suggests there is something about their combination that works. John Ryan's Newmarket yard has sent out eleven winners this season, so the infrastructure is there. But Sturlasson needs to get back to what he does best: short races on quick ground, ideally back at Southwell, where the conditions and the course play to his genuine strengths. At this stage of his career, that might be his best chance of adding to his tally.
