The horse wins roughly 1 in every 8 races overall, but that number flatters to deceive slightly depending on where and when you catch it. On normal ground, it wins closer to 1 in 4 — three wins from 13 races — and at distances between a mile and a furlong and a mile and two furlongs, it has won 3 of 15. Neither figure sets the world alight, but together they paint a picture of a horse with real preferences rather than a random scattergun profile. Beverley is where it looks most at home: two wins from just six races there, a 1-in-3 record at a track known for its unusual uphill finish. That kind of course-specific consistency is harder to achieve than it looks.

Star Start was bought specifically for amateur jockey Miss Charli Parker, which is an unusual and rather charming detail. Ruth Carr has spoken openly about that decision, and it appears to have worked out well — Parker has won 3 of their 16 races together, roughly 1 in 5, which is a genuinely strong partnership record. Their most striking result came at Pontefract in August 2025, where Star Start was drawn wide and showed a habit of flying too fast too early. Parker sat and waited rather than letting the horse bowl along in front, and it paid off. "I had to sit and suffer," she told Racing TV afterwards, "and it's paid off lovely." That kind of tactical discipline from an amateur rider on a quirky horse is worth noting.

The horse last ran just yesterday, and its recent form — a mix of third-place finishes and some disappointing efforts down the field — suggests it is still searching for its best. Carr has noted that it typically needs a few races to find its rhythm each season. Given that it races almost entirely at Class 6 level, which is the entry level of British racing, wins tend to come when the planets align rather than regularly. But for a horse bought for an amateur rider and still competitive at six, Star Start has already exceeded what many expected of it.
