Rogue Supremacy

Those two wins came at Wetherby and Hamilton Park, the second of them now sitting 12 months in the past. For a young horse still developing, that's a long time without a victory, and it raises a genuine question about whether Rogue Supremacy has found its ceiling or is simply yet to click at the right moment. The horse is clearly being tested at a high level — six of its races have come in Class 1 company, the very top tier of British racing, and it has yet to trouble the judge in any of them. That's not shameful; plenty of horses never get near that grade at all. But it does suggest the yard may be asking questions the horse isn't quite ready to answer.

Archie Watson trains out of Upper Lambourn, a famously competitive training base in Berkshire, and his operation has been in fine form this season with 62 winners on the board. The fact that Rogue Supremacy hasn't added to that tally despite regular opportunities is notable. Luke Morris, who has ridden the horse five times, is still looking for his first win aboard it — 0 from 5 together is the kind of number that makes you wonder whether a change of jockey might shake things up. The horse raced just yesterday, so the yard are clearly keeping it busy and hunting for that elusive breakthrough. Whether it comes at this level, or by stepping back into slightly easier company, is the question worth watching.
