What makes the record a little harder to judge is where Rogue Supremacy has been asked to operate. Six of those 13 races have come at Class 1 level — the very top tier of British racing — and the horse has not won any of them. That is not a failing so much as a context: running at the highest level and finishing placed or close is genuinely competitive, but converting at that standard is a different challenge altogether. It is a bit like a promising club musician who keeps getting invited to big stages but hasn't quite had the breakout moment yet.

The trainer is Archie Watson, based at Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, and the yard has sent out 63 winners already this season — that is a seriously productive operation, not a small stable hoping for the odd result. Watson is known for placing horses well and getting performances out of younger horses in particular, so the fact that Rogue Supremacy is in his care matters. The yard knows what it is doing, and a three-year-old with two wins and consistent placing form still has time on its side.

Rogue Supremacy raced just one day ago, which means this is a horse right in the thick of its season. The question hanging over the next few runs is simple: can it rediscover the form that produced those two wins, or has the step up in class found it out? Given the Watson stable's firepower and the horse's age, it would be premature to write off another win. But it needs to show something soon.
