Wallis flagged early on that Riot is a horse who needs faster, drier ground to show his best — and the numbers back that up. On normal conditions, he wins roughly 1 in every 5 races, 2 wins from 11 attempts, which is a noticeably better return than his overall record. The horse was once placed in the Buckingham Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot — one of the most prestigious flat races of the summer — so there is genuine quality buried in his history, even if he is now operating at a more modest level day to day.

The most interesting thread in Riot's story is Doncaster. He has won 2 of his 8 races there, which might not sound staggering, but for a horse who wins roughly 1 in 10 overall, that's a course where his chances almost double. Some horses just take to certain venues — the track shape, the ground, something clicks — and Doncaster appears to be that place for Riot. His most regular jockey is Daniel Tudhope, who has ridden him 15 times and won twice together, winning around 1 in every 7 of those rides.

His last win came at Wolverhampton in October 2025, about eight months ago, and his recent run of form — finishing no better than seventh in his last six races — suggests he is finding wins harder to come by at the moment. That happens with older horses; the windows of opportunity get narrower. But Riot is still out there racing, still active, and with fast ground and a track that suits, he has shown often enough that he is capable of reminding people what he is about.
