The numbers, if you look closely, tell an interesting story. Parlando wins roughly 1 in every 7 races across its career — 4 wins from 28 — which is a solid enough record, but the real challenge has been at Class 2 level, where it has managed just 1 win from 10 races, or 1 in every 10. That is not unusual. Racing at the better end of the sport means meeting better rivals, and simply placing — finishing in the top few — at that level is worth something. Parlando has done that 13 times in its career, which speaks to a horse that competes genuinely rather than just filling a field.

What is harder to ignore is the current run of form. The last six races have produced no wins, and recent finishes of eighth, eighth, and sixth suggest a horse that has dipped from the level it showed when winning at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day 2025 — six months ago now. The two thirds and a second in between gave some encouragement, but the latest outings have been flat. That said, Parlando raced just yesterday, so this is a horse in the thick of a season, not one being nursed back from a long absence.

The trainer behind it is Ian Williams, based in Worcestershire, and his yard has sent out 96 winners already this season — that is a genuinely productive operation, the kind where horses are prepared carefully and placed to give themselves a chance. A trainer running at that volume tends to know where each horse fits best, and the fact that Parlando keeps appearing at Class 2 level suggests Williams believes it belongs there, even if the wins have dried up for now. The question is whether Parlando has another one in it, or whether that Boxing Day win turns out to be the last chapter in a quietly decent career.
