Maxident

De Foy's yard has been in excellent form this season, sending out 40 winners, and Maxident's most recent run was just yesterday, which tells you the team thinks he is in good shape right now. His most recent win came at Ffos Las in Wales in September 2025, a track that can get notably wet, which fits the pattern perfectly. The trainer has been open about the fact that injury interrupted an earlier season — the horse was struck into and missed a chunk of racing — and that they have effectively been waiting for the right ground to come along ever since.

David Egan has been the regular partner, riding him in 7 of his 16 races and winning once together, a win rate of around 1 in 7, which is about what you'd expect given Maxident needs conditions to fall just right. The horse travels best at distances between a mile and three furlongs and a mile and four furlongs — proper middle-distance staying trips — and at Class 4 level he has won 2 from 8, or 1 in every 4 races, which is actually a solid record at that grade. His recent form reads second, first, second, which suggests he is running as well as he has in some time.

The big caveat is that his last win was nine months ago, and this is a horse that cannot just be pointed at a race and expected to perform — the ground has to be right. But with current form looking sharp and a trainer who clearly knows exactly what he needs, Maxident is one of those horses worth keeping an eye on when the forecast turns gloomy.
