He's A Gentleman

He won his first race at Lingfield Park back in September 2022, and his most recent victory came at Wolverhampton in October 2025 — so at seven years old, he is still very much in business. His last six runs read 2-2-7-9-2-1, which tells an interesting story. There were a couple of flat patches in the middle, but he has bounced back sharply either side of them, and with a race just yesterday, he is as active as ever. Horses who keep finding the line at this stage of their career tend to be tough, consistent, and well-placed by their trainer.

That trainer is Hugo Palmer, based in Malpas, Cheshire — and this is a yard that knows how to win races. Sixty-six winners already this season is a serious number, the output of a genuinely busy and well-organised operation. He's A Gentleman fits the Palmer mould of a horse who is placed thoughtfully: he races most often at Class 4 level, one step below the top tier of everyday racing, and has won 3 of his 29 races at that grade, roughly 1 in every 10 starts. Not spectacular, but solid and repeatable.

What he really needs is normal ground — dry enough to be decent, not dried out to a sprint track. On those conditions he has won 5 of his 26 races, nearly 1 in 5, which is a meaningful edge. His best trips are seven furlongs to a mile, that sweet spot of speed and stamina where he has won 4 from 21, again close to that 1-in-5 ratio. One slight quirk: regular jockey Jason Hart has yet to win on him in six attempts together, which is the kind of stat that quietly nags at a team without necessarily meaning very much.

At 52 races and still placing almost every other time he runs, He's A Gentleman has earned his name.
