Enemy

The most striking thing about Enemy is what happens when he goes to Southwell. That track, on the outskirts of Nottinghamshire, has an all-weather sand surface that suits certain horses down to the ground — and Enemy is one of them. He has won 2 of just 4 races there, which means he converts half his visits into victories at a track where he regularly takes on good-quality opposition. His last win came at Southwell on New Year's Day 2026, a Class 2 race — one of the top tier of races in Britain. For a horse of his age to be winning at that level, six months ago, says a great deal about his continued ability.

He also has a genuine preference for normal ground conditions, winning 2 from 7 races (29%) on a standard surface — comfortably his best surface record. His preferred trip sits around a mile and three to four furlongs, and when all those factors line up, Enemy becomes a very different proposition to the modest-looking career record alone might suggest.

Richard Kingscote rides him most often — 10 times in total — and has partnered him to one of those wins, giving them a shared win rate of 10% together. Ian Williams trains him out of his yard in Portway, Worcestershire, and it has been a productive season for the operation, which has sent out 96 winners this campaign. A yard that busy and that successful tends to know exactly where to place a horse to give it the best chance.

Enemy raced just yesterday, which means he is right in the thick of his campaign. He is not a horse that wins often, but when the track is Southwell, the ground is right and the distance suits, he has shown more than once that he can beat decent horses in a decent race.
