Ehteyat

The picture becomes clearer when you look at where Ehteyat does its best work. On normal ground conditions, the horse transforms into something approaching a winning machine, claiming 2 of its 7 races on such tracks — a 29% win rate that stands in sharp contrast to its overall record. Over the longer distances it favours, between 1 mile 6 furlongs and 2 miles, it has won 3 of 16 races (19%). Most tellingly, at Class 5 level — the lowest rung of competitive racing — Ehteyat has won 2 of 6 races (33%), suggesting this is where it belongs. The horse's sole success came at Southwell in January 2023, and its most recent victory arrived at Listowel in September 2025, both modest venues for a horse of modest ability.

Trained by M K Flannery's yard in Askeaton, County Limerick, Ehteyat competes in what appears to be a modest operation — Flannery has sent out just one winner all season. Recent form tells a stark story: the horse has run six times without a victory, placing twice but showing little sign of recapturing the form that produced those three wins. The challenge now, at seven years old and after such a prolonged drought, is finding another winning race before circumstances or age make that impossible.
