Something about that venue suits Documenting in a way that few tracks do. And the horse proved it was no fluke by returning to win there on Boxing Day 2024, more than two years after that Class 2 victory at the same course. That is not a horse in decline — that is a horse that knows where it likes to run.

Ground conditions matter too. On normal going, Documenting has won 4 of 17 races — nearly 1 in 4. That is more than three times the conversion rate it manages overall, and it tells you exactly when to pay closest attention.

Jockey Jack Mitchell has been the regular partner, and the numbers back that up — 4 of the horse's 5 career wins have come with Mitchell in the saddle, from 17 rides together. That kind of familiarity between horse and rider is not nothing. Trainer Kevin Frost, operating out of Averham Park in Nottinghamshire, has had a productive season with 25 winners from the yard. The last 6 races have not produced a win, but for a 13-year-old still racing at Class 2 level, the question is never whether the best days are ahead — it is whether there is one more good day left.
