Evans is a trainer who knows how to place horses well, and Blue Prince looks like a good example of that skill in action. The horse spends most of his time in Class 2 company — one of the better tiers of racing in Britain — and has won 1 from 14 races at that level, a 7% win rate that sounds modest until you remember these are competitive fields full of horses that belong there. Blue Prince clearly belongs there too.

His best performances come over the shorter distances: between five and six-and-a-half furlongs, he has won 3 of 14 races (21%), which is a genuinely strong return. At that range, on a good surface under normal conditions, he has won 2 of 9 races (22%). In other words, when the ground is right and the trip suits, he becomes a horse worth taking seriously. His biggest win came at Newcastle on New Year's Day 2024, a Class 2 race on the all-weather track — not a small occasion, and a result that shows he can step up when the moment calls for it.

Recent form tells an encouraging story. His last six runs read 3-1-3-3-9-10 in reverse order, meaning two poor runs have been followed by four consistent efforts including a win. That win came at Salisbury just three weeks ago, and with Blue Prince having raced as recently as yesterday, the team are clearly keeping him busy while he is in form. A horse that wins at one of the top levels, places consistently, and keeps delivering over his best distances is one that deserves more attention than his career record might initially suggest.
