Beaming Light

Trained by David Loughnane at his yard in Stoke Heath, Shropshire — a yard that has sent out 37 winners already this season, so this is no backwater operation — Beaming Light is a 6-year-old with a clear profile. Both career wins came in the summer of 2025, first at Chelmsford in June and then at Ffos Las in Wales at the end of that same month. Since then, nothing. The last 6 races have returned a best of a second place, with a string of mid-field finishes behind it. Nine months without a win is a long run for a horse that has shown it can get the job done.

The jockey partnership with Richard Kingscote tells an encouraging story, at least. In 5 races together, Kingscote has steered Beaming Light to 2 wins — a 40% win rate, or 2 from every 5 rides. That is a striking number. For context, most jockey-and-horse partnerships that hold together over time work at a fraction of that. It suggests Kingscote either suits the horse well, or that the team has been selective about when to put them together.

The trickier detail is class. Beaming Light has raced 15 times at Class 5 — the lower end of the racing ladder — and has not won once at that level. All 3 career wins have come elsewhere, which is an unusual pattern. It means the horse has shown more at slightly better company than at the level it most often competes at, which is counterintuitive but not unheard of. With Beaming Light having raced just one day ago, whatever comes next will be worth watching closely — particularly if Kingscote is back in the saddle and the trip is right.
