Yet stick Wonder in a Class 4 race — the kind of middle-ranking event that should suit a horse of this calibre — and it has won none from nine attempts. The horse clearly has limits in tougher company and performs better when conditions and track align perfectly.

James Fanshawe's Newmarket yard has been prolific this season with forty-four winners, and Wonder has benefited from a stable jockey arrangement with Dylan Hogan, who has won twice from ten races aboard the horse, a twenty percent win rate that slightly outperforms Wonder's overall numbers. The pair's most recent outing was just yesterday, and though that ended with sixth place, the horse had finished second just two runs before that. Wonder's last victory came eight months ago at Southwell in February, which raises a question about whether the horse is working hard for its wins or simply waiting for the right circumstances to align again — a test that will likely come the next time it gets normal ground and a distance it likes.
