That kind of understanding between horse and rider does not happen by accident; it suggests Lewis knows how to get the best from this particular animal. Soft or heavy going clearly does not suit it.

What is curious is V Power's record in the highest-class races it has entered. The horse has raced six times at the top level and has not won once, which indicates it is a genuine Class 5 specialist that may be operating at its ceiling. Recent form has been up and down: a win five starts ago, followed by two fifth-place finishes and another second. The horse raced just a day ago and is clearly still active, but the gap of three months between its last victory and the present suggests it may be taking longer to find opportunities. Trainer Thomas Faulkner's yard has had a productive season with 16 winners overall, but this one may need conditions to align — its surface, its track, and perhaps another call from Lewis — before it wins again.
