Uzincso

The most revealing detail about Uzincso is where he does his best work. Six of his seven career wins have come on the all-weather — the synthetic, sand-based tracks used in Britain year-round — and his official rating on that surface is five pounds higher than on grass. In racing terms, five pounds is a meaningful edge, the difference between being competitive and being outclassed. His most recent win came at Kempton Park in September 2025, one of the sport's premier all-weather venues, and trainer John Butler has indicated he is nearly ready to return to that surface. When he does, that is when to watch.

What makes Uzincso genuinely likeable is his consistency. Butler notes that he never runs a bad race — he always gives his best, which paradoxically makes life difficult, because the handicapper (the official who adjusts weight to level the field) refuses to drop his rating when he keeps finishing respectably. He is, in a sense, too honest for his own good. His current assignment at Class 4 level has produced zero wins from 12 races, which suggests the assessors have him pinned at a weight he cannot quite overcome. His most regular jockey, Luke Morris, has ridden him 14 times without a win together — a partnership that, whatever its strengths, has not yet found the key.

There was, though, a genuinely special afternoon at Newmarket in the summer of 2022 — his first career win, on a raceday dedicated to the late football manager Glenn Roeder. Butler clearly found it meaningful beyond the result itself, and it is exactly the kind of moment that gives a horse's record texture beyond statistics. Uzincso raced just one day ago and remains active. At ten, with John Butler's yard in fine form — 39 winners this season — and an all-weather campaign on the horizon, there may be one more chapter still to write.
