Uniter

At the level Uniter typically competes — Class 4, which sits in the middle of the British racing ladder — it has tried three times without success. That's a meaningful detail, because Class 4 is supposed to be the sort of company where a horse with genuine ability can get its head in front. The fact that it hasn't managed it yet suggests either the opposition has been consistently a touch too strong, or Uniter is still finding its feet as a young horse. At three years old, there's still time for things to click.

The trainer is Denis Coakley, based at West Ilsley in Berkshire — a yard that has sent out 10 winners already this season, so there's clearly no shortage of know-how on the training side. Coakley's team will be well aware that Uniter needs to find something extra to turn those near-misses into a breakthrough. Whether that comes from a drop in class, a change of conditions, or simply the natural improvement that can come with experience at this age remains to be seen. Uniter is currently active, so the next opportunity may not be far away.
