Too Much

Too Much is a six-year-old trained by David Thompson out of Bolam in County Durham, and has been around the block enough times to know what it likes. The career started with a first win at Southwell back in March 2023, and the most recent came at Newcastle just over a year ago in March 2025 — a tidy northern circuit for a northern yard. David Thompson's operation has sent out nine winners this season, so the team clearly knows how to get one ready.

The numbers paint a picture of a horse who places more than it wins — nine top-three finishes from 27 races is actually a decent return, meaning Too Much hits the frame roughly once every three runs. That matters if you are following it, because it tends to be competitive even when not quite good enough to win. The win rate of 11%, or roughly 1 in every 9 races, is modest but not unusual at Class 5 level, which is where most flat racing sits at the bread-and-butter end of the sport.

What stands out is the partnership with jockey Kaiya Fraser. In seven races together they have won twice — a win rate of 29%, or just under 1 in every 3 races. That is dramatically better than Too Much's overall record, and it is the kind of stat that makes a knowledgeable racegoer sit up and take notice. When Fraser is in the saddle, something clearly clicks.

The horse has also shown a preference for racing over a mile and a furlong to a mile and two furlongs — a fairly specific distance sweet spot — winning 1 from 4 at those trips, which works out at 25%, or 1 in every 4. That might not sound dramatic, but it is more than double the overall win rate, and it tells you the yard has probably figured out where Too Much is at its best. Having raced just yesterday, it is bang in the middle of its season, and with Fraser potentially booked again over the right distance, the next win might not be as far away as the last 14 months would suggest.
