That is a class act. Put it on wet or muddy ground, though, and it struggles. This is not unusual; many horses have strong ground preferences, but knowing it so precisely is valuable. Races at tracks like Nottingham, where the horse notched its first career win back in April, or Newmarket, where it won three weeks ago, suit it perfectly. David Loughnane's yard at Stoke Heath, which has already sent out 39 winners this season, clearly understands how to place The Sweet Escape where it can win.

There is one slight concern. In Class 5 races—the lower grade of competitive racing—the horse has never won, going zero from eight starts. Step it up to Class 4 or better and it performs differently. This suggests The Sweet Escape has found its natural level in the races it does win, and trying higher grades might not be the answer. The trainer's job now is to keep finding dry-ground opportunities at the right level, where the recent winning streak can continue. After racing just yesterday, the horse is clearly active and ready. If the ground stays fast and the targets stay realistic, there is more to come from this one.
