When a horse suddenly clicks at a specific venue, it's usually down to something in the ground, the layout, or the way a track flows. For Taygar, the answer seems to be wet or muddy conditions — and Ayr, particularly in summer and autumn, tends to deliver exactly that. Dods confirmed as much after her last win there in July 2025, telling Racing TV that she had simply been "waiting for some soft ground."

That win at Ayr is worth dwelling on, because it came despite everything. Taygar is, in her trainer's own words, "tricky." She is known to walk down to the start early and race on her own schedule rather than the jockey's. On that July day, things didn't go to plan — she had to be sent to the front earlier than ideal — but she kept finding more and held on. That kind of effort, grinding it out when the race didn't unfold perfectly, is exactly what separates a horse with real ability from one who only performs when conditions are ideal.

Since that Ayr win, she has gone six races without winning, though her recent form reads 2-4-2-2-2-8 — meaning she has been placing consistently and clearly running well enough. She raced just one day ago and remains active. Regular partner Paul Mulrennan has ridden her nine times for that single win, a partnership that works but hasn't yet unlocked her best. Dods's yard has sent out 43 winners this season, so the operation is clearly in fine form. The question is simply when Taygar decides the conditions — and the occasion — suit her well enough to add to her tally.
