The most interesting number in Shallow's record is at Chelmsford. Two wins from just 3 races there is a remarkable return — that is winning two thirds of the time at a track where most horses are happy to place once. The first of those wins came on 15 February 2024, which is where Shallow's story really began. Course specialists are not a myth in racing; some horses genuinely take to a particular track's shape or surface, and Chelmsford appears to bring out something extra in this one.

Together they have won 3 of their 9 races — that is 1 in every 3, which is an exceptional ratio and suggests a genuine partnership rather than coincidence. On normal conditions, Shallow has won 2 from 7, a 29% win rate that again outperforms its overall average.

The caveat is form. Shallow has not won in its last 6 races, with recent finishes of second, third, third, second, ninth, and second — plenty of placing, but the winning touch has been elusive since a victory at Newmarket on 18 July 2025, which was roughly a year ago. That run of near-misses will matter to anyone following closely, though the volume of place finishes suggests this is a horse finding its level rather than going backwards. Raced just yesterday, Shallow is clearly in active campaigning, and at Class 4 — a solid middle tier of British racing — it wins roughly 1 in every 4 or 5 tries.
