What makes the record even more impressive is the quality of the races it has won. Back-to-back victories at York on 20 August 2025 and then Doncaster on 11 September 2025 — the latter a Class 1 race, meaning one of the very best in Britain — confirmed Santorini Star as a serious performer rather than simply a horse that beats average company. That Doncaster win in particular is the kind of result that sticks on a CV. It showed the horse could handle a big occasion and come out on top when the standard was at its highest.

Santorini Star is trained by William Haggas at Newmarket, one of the most respected yards in the country. The numbers back that reputation up — 170 winners in the current season alone. Being part of an operation running at that volume and still managing individual attention to a horse like this says plenty about how the yard is run. The regular partnership with jockey Tom Marquand has also been a key ingredient: together they have won 4 from 7 races, a win rate of 57%, which suggests a combination that genuinely clicks.

The five-year-old is currently in the form of its life. Three wins from the last six races, with recent results reading 1-1-1 before a couple of lesser efforts and then a twelfth-place finish most recently. That last run, just one day ago, is the one note of caution — though it is worth remembering this horse has bounced back sharply from flat patches before. Its last win came at Newmarket on 1 May 2026, seven weeks ago, and with the Haggas yard firing on all cylinders, it would take a brave person to write off Santorini Star finding its way back to the winner's enclosure soon.
