The overall numbers tell one story: nine wins from 45 races means it wins roughly one in every five, which is a perfectly solid record for a horse operating at this level. But the recent form tells a much better one. Four wins from its last six races is the kind of purple patch that gets people excited in racing yards, and it shows no sign of slowing down — it raced just yesterday. Whatever Dods has figured out about this horse, it seems to be working. His yard has been in excellent shape generally, sending out 43 winners this season alone, so Roaring Ralph is part of a bigger wave of momentum.

The conditions matter enormously with this horse. On fast, dry ground, it wins three from six — that is a 50% win rate, which in racing terms is extraordinary. At a distance between a mile and a furlong and a mile and two furlongs, it has won five from eight races, or roughly 62% of the time. Those two facts together paint a clear picture: find the right trip on a dry summer's day, and Roaring Ralph is genuinely difficult to beat. Ayr, on the west coast of Scotland, has been a particularly happy hunting ground — two wins from just four visits, which suggests the track suits the way it travels.

Connor Beasley has ridden it in 15 of its 45 races and won three of them, which works out at one win in every five — a consistent partnership rather than a spectacular one. Most of Roaring Ralph's racing has come in Class 5 races, which sit near the bottom end of the competitive ladder, and the win rate there is a more modest nine from 23. That makes the current streak all the more striking — this is not a horse that has always found winning easy. It took its first win at Redcar in May 2023, and it has taken time and miles to get to this point. Right now, though, it looks like a horse that has finally worked out how good it can be.
