What makes Rakki interesting is how his recent form points to a horse rediscovering purpose. His last win came at Tramore eight weeks ago, and in his last six races he has recovered from a poor run (finishing sixteenth three races ago) to place and compete with more consistency — fourth, fifth and seventh finishes suggest he is hitting his stride again. His trainer W. P. Mullins, based in County Carlow, noted that Rakki had been a touch disappointing on the flat but believed hurdling might steadier him. The horse made his debut over jumps at Chepstow where, despite being smaller than his rivals, he acquitted himself well enough to warrant belief. His first win came at Roscommon in September 2025, a victory jockey Paul Townend described as deserved — he recovered from a mistake jumping the second-last to find a leg and win with his experience showing. Since then, Rakki has won once more and placed regularly, which tells you he is a horse who works best in a specific niche: soft ground, his preferred distance, and races at the lower end of the scale where his experience counts. That is not a world-beater, but it is a horse that knows what it does and does it reasonably well when asked the right question.
