His trainer had flagged some of the complications early on. Speaking back in November 2024, Mullins noted that Rakki could get wound up before a race on the Flat, and hoped that jumping would settle him down and put some manners on him. That's trainer-speak for a horse with ability but a difficult temperament — the kind that can burn through its own energy before the starting gun. Jockey Paul Townend, who rode him to that Roscommon win, was candid in his post-race assessment: Rakki made a mistake two from home but found a way through it, and Townend felt his experience showed. "He's done it nicely," Townend said, "but he'll have to keep improving."

That last line matters. Recent form reads 7-16-6-2-1-3 — a win and a second in the middle of that sequence, but a seventh and a sixteenth in his most recent two outings. He raced just yesterday, so he's clearly being kept busy, but the trajectory since that Roscommon win hasn't been straightforward. He's also yet to win at Class 4 level, going 0 from 7 in that grade, which suggests the step up in quality has so far found him out. There's a horse in here capable of winning — the Roscommon run proved that — but he'll need to show he can reproduce it consistently.
