Raintown

Trainer J. S. Moore, who runs his yard from Upper Lambourn in Berkshire, has identified something clear about this horse. Raintown simply prefers all-weather surfaces to grass. When the ground is man-made, firm and predictable, the horse thrives. Move him to grass and the form drops away, even when the class of race is similar. Last summer Raintown won at Newbury on the turf, but that victory came eight weeks ago, and Moore sees the all-weather as where future opportunities lie. The horse is most dangerous over 1m1f to 1m2f—at those distances he wins roughly one in every three races (2 wins from 6)—and at Class 5 level, where he's secured five wins from twenty-two attempts. At six years old and still active after racing just yesterday, Raintown remains a horse worth following whenever he lines up on the all-weather. He's not a flashy prospect, but he's a honest one who knows his trade.
