Raintown

The key to understanding Raintown is the surface. On normal, standard ground, he has won 7 of 28 races — 25%, or one in four — which is a genuinely strong return. But his trainer is candid about the fact that his all-weather form simply does not travel to grass. He won by five lengths at Lingfield on the artificial surface, got raised in the handicap ratings as a result, and then found life tougher when asked to transfer that form onto turf. The trainer's view is straightforward: on the all-weather, Raintown is still ahead of the assessor's mark. On grass, he needs a lower rating to be competitive. That distinction matters enormously when you are trying to work out when to pay attention to him.

His best trips are between a mile and one furlong and a mile and two, where he has won 2 of 6 races — one in three. Taylor Fisher, who rides him most often, has partnered him to 2 of those 8 career wins from 12 races together. His last win came at Newbury in July 2025, and he has not won in his last six outings since, with recent finishes of seventh, eighth, third, fourth, second, and third — competitive enough, but the winner's enclosure has stayed out of reach.

Moore's yard has sent out 17 winners already this season, so the operation is in good form. And with Raintown having raced just yesterday and still clearly in active training, the team are not hiding him away. The trainer has said plainly that there are a couple of very nice races waiting for him on the all-weather. If you see Raintown declared at Lingfield on a standard surface, that is when this horse becomes genuinely worth your attention.
