The broader numbers back up that impression. From 16 races, Qirat has won 5 and finished in the frame a further 10 times — that is a win rate of 31%, or roughly 1 in every 3 races, which is genuinely excellent for a horse operating at this level. His preferred trip is seven furlongs to a mile, where he has won 4 of his 8 races — exactly half — and he is at his best on normal ground, winning 3 of 5 races in those conditions. His jockey Hector Crouch knows him well, winning 3 of their 7 races together, a return of 43%, which is the kind of number that makes a trainer very reluctant to change the arrangement.

Trained by Ralph Beckett at Kimpton in Hampshire — a yard that has already sent out 107 winners this season alone — Qirat sat at the top of the sport in the summer of 2025 when he won a Class 1 race, one of the very best races in Britain, at Goodwood. That was the Sussex Stakes, and by Beckett's own admission nobody was quite expecting it. His rider Richard Kingscote was instructed simply to go from the front and keep going, and the horse did exactly that. As Beckett put it afterwards, Qirat had always threatened to be a good horse — he had just never quite managed to get it out of him until that day.

The plan now, according to Beckett, is to head back to Goodwood for the Celebration Mile and potentially another tilt at the Sussex, with the Diomed Stakes at Epsom on Derby weekend a possibility along the way. For a horse who owns Goodwood the way Qirat does, that itinerary looks well designed. The York win this week proves the form is live, and at his best on a fair surface over a mile, there is every reason to think the good days are not behind him.
