Priapos

Ground conditions matter hugely to this horse. On normal ground, Priapos wins roughly half its races (2 wins from 4), and on fast, dry ground it performs well too (3 wins from 9 races, a 33% win rate). When the turf gets soft or muddy, however, the horse struggles — it has yet to win on such conditions. Distance also plays a role: Priapos is best suited to races between 7 furlongs and a mile, winning 2 of 5 races over that stretch (40%), and seems less effective when asked to go shorter or longer.

Recent form shows mixed results. Priapos won two of its last six races but also has some poor runs in there — a fifth place and a twelfth place among recent efforts suggest consistency remains elusive. The horse is active and racing regularly, last running just a day ago, which means Makin's team is working hard to find the right spot. Rossa Ryan has ridden Priapos five times without success, so the partnership may need reassessment. The real opportunity lies in finding races at Carlisle on normal or fast ground over a mile or so — that combination has proven a winning formula before.
