"A lazy type," they called him — the sort who will happily coast unless someone knows exactly how to ask the question. That is either charming or maddening depending on your perspective, but it speaks to a horse with a personality.

He has had his troubles along the way. His trainer Joey Ramsden, based at Newark, noted that Pleasant Man bled when pulled up during a race at Kempton and needed a breathing operation afterwards — a significant setback for any horse. The fact that he has continued racing competitively since is genuinely impressive and perhaps explains why the yard clearly retains affection for him.
