On The Inlet

The ground matters with this one. On normal conditions, On The Inlet has won 2 of its 4 races — that is a remarkable 50% win rate, which means when the track is riding as it should, this horse is as likely to win as not. That is the sort of stat a knowledgeable friend would whisper to you before the race. The trick, of course, is catching it on the right day.

On The Inlet is trained by the partnership of Dr Richard Newland and Jamie Insole, based at Elmbridge in Worcestershire. The yard is in strong form this season, having already sent out 49 winners — that is not a quiet operation, and a horse sitting in that environment is in good hands. With the horse having raced as recently as yesterday, it is clearly in the thick of an active campaign, and those mid-table finishes of fifth and eleventh sandwiched around the April wins show a horse still learning what it takes to compete consistently.

At three years old, On The Inlet is still very much a work in progress — and that is what makes it interesting. The platform is there: a win rate that holds up, a clear preference for normal ground, and a yard that knows how to get horses across the line. Whether it can rediscover that sharp April form is the open question, but this is a horse worth keeping an eye on.
