My Boy Jack

The horse was bought for 50,000 guineas at the sales by trainer Kevin Frost, a move that looked astute at the time given he had made a quarter of a million as a yearling and was by what Frost describes as a strong sire. Frost got lucky on the day — not many runners went through the ring that sale — and the colt fell to him at a fraction of his former value. It hasn't quite worked out to justify even that reduced price, but My Boy Jack has remained in the yard at Averham Park in Nottinghamshire and has proved most effective on normal ground, where he has won all three races. At his best he runs over 5 furlongs to 6½ furlongs, which is where he has managed all three victories. Alfie Gee rides him most often but has drawn a blank from nine attempts together. Last out just yesterday, My Boy Jack remains active and capable of finding his way to the winner's enclosure at Wolverhampton, the one place where his record suggests he truly belongs.
