Midnight's Dream

The two wins are worth looking at closely. The first came at Kempton Park in January 2025, and the second at Leicester in April 2025 — but that Leicester win was 16 months ago now, and Midnight's Dream has gone six races without winning since. The recent form makes for difficult reading: finishes of 10th, 12th, and 11th in three of the last six runs before a slight upturn to sixth, then third, then second most recently. That second place last time out is at least a sign of life, suggesting the horse may be finding its way back to form rather than drifting away from it.

The level at which it competes is also telling. Midnight's Dream has raced most often in Class 4 company — solid, mid-tier racing — and has yet to win at that level, going 0 from 11 attempts there. Its two wins have come below that grade, which suggests the horse is perhaps most dangerous when dropped into slightly easier company. That is not a criticism; plenty of horses operate exactly this way, and knowing where a horse genuinely belongs is half the puzzle.

Jack Mitchell has been the regular partner in the saddle, riding the horse in nine of its races for one win together — roughly 1 in every 9 times out. That is a workmanlike rather than electric partnership. The trainer is Joseph Parr, whose Newmarket yard has sent out six winners so far this season, showing the operation is capable of getting horses to the line first. Midnight's Dream raced just yesterday, so it is very much in active campaign, and with that second-place finish fresh in its legs, the next run will be worth watching to see whether the corner has genuinely been turned.
