At four years old, Miami Matrix has a career record of 3 wins and 6 places from 12 races, which works out at winning 1 in every 4 outings — a solid return for a horse of this age and class. The career started with a first win at Wolverhampton in February 2025, before the horse stepped up to Chester and showed something more. A Class 2 win there in June 2025 is the kind of result that puts a horse on the map. One of the top races in Britain, contested by serious rivals — and Miami Matrix handled it.

The complication is that the last six races have produced nothing in the winner's enclosure, with finishing positions of 13th, 15th, 2nd, 4th, 9th and 4th in that sequence. The recent second place shows the ability is still there, but for the moment the wins have dried up. That said, Miami Matrix raced just yesterday, so whatever shape the horse is currently in, the team at Patrick Morris's yard in Prescott, Merseyside, clearly feel it is worth keeping busy.

When a trainer keeps running a horse through a lean patch, it usually means they still believe in what they have — and given Miami Matrix's Chester record, that confidence is not without foundation. Two wins from seven attempts at the same course is genuinely unusual; most horses never build that kind of familiarity with a specific track. Whether another Chester run is on the agenda remains to be seen, but if it is, that course record will have plenty of people paying attention.
