Melek Alreeh

The real standout is the partnership with jockey Luke Morris. They have won three of their five races together, a 60% win rate that is genuinely remarkable when set against the horse's overall record. That kind of connection — where a jockey seems to unlock something in a horse — is rare enough to matter, and if Morris is available, he is clearly the right man in the saddle. The other key strength is Southwell, where Melek Alreeh has won two of its three starts. That is not a huge sample, but it hints at a genuine liking for that particular track.

Ground preferences tell another story. On normal conditions, the horse wins one race in every two — three wins from six races — which is dramatically better than its baseline. Soft or heavy ground clearly does not suit it, and neither do the fast, dry surfaces. There is also a preference for distance: at 1m6f to 2m, it has won three of nine races. Class 4 racing, however, is a graveyard: just one win from ten attempts suggests this horse finds itself out of its depth in those company whenever it steps up in class.

Last raced just a day ago and still in active training under David Simcock at Newmarket, Melek Alreeh has not won since January at Wolverhampton. Recent form shows a pattern of places mixed with blanks — nowhere near the consistent performer needed to suggest a return to the winner's circle is imminent. It is a horse to follow when Morris is booked and the ground is kind, but without those specific circumstances falling into place, it tends to disappoint.
