Mafting

That kind of volume means horses get placed carefully, and Mafting looks like a horse that has been pointed at the right spots. Its overall record reads 2 wins and 5 places from 11 races — wins roughly 1 in every 5 outings, which is a perfectly respectable ratio — but the really interesting number is on fast, dry ground: 2 wins from 5 races there, a 40% hit rate that is eye-catching by any measure. When the sun has been out and the ground is quick, this horse runs like a different animal.

Distance matters too. Over 1 mile 3 furlongs to 1 mile 4 furlongs, Mafting has won 2 of its 5 races — again that 40% figure. Put dry ground, that trip, and Redcar together, and you have a horse that has consistently delivered. The recent form figures of 1-7-4-3-8-4 are a mixed picture, but that number 1 at the front is the one that matters — it arrived just days ago. At the level Mafting has mostly been competing, it hasn't yet translated that Redcar magic into wins elsewhere, but that might simply mean O'Meara has identified exactly where this horse belongs and keeps coming back.

Mafting's first career win came at Redcar in May 2025, and it returned to the same track almost a year later for win number two. There is something almost stubborn about a horse that keeps going back to the same place and keeps winning. Whether it can take that form to new venues remains the open question, but right now, at Redcar on a dry day over a mile and a half, this is a horse worth watching very closely.
