Luminous Warrior

That win came at Kempton Park on 17 December 2025, and it is the clearest pointer to where Luminous Warrior is at its best. Over distances between a mile and one furlong and a mile and two furlongs, the four-year-old has won 1 from 6 races — a rate of about 17%, or roughly one in every six attempts at those trips — which is a sharp improvement on its overall record and suggests the stamina those distances demand genuinely suits this horse. Kempton's flat, all-weather circuit rewards a horse that travels smoothly and finishes with purpose, and Luminous Warrior clearly found both that day.

The concern is what has happened since. That win was now seven months ago, and the last six races have produced nothing but a second place and a sixth, with two runs producing no finish position at all and one of those coming just a day ago. The recent form line of 2-6-8-–-22-– is not one to set the pulse racing. More troubling still is the record in Class 5 races — the level at which Luminous Warrior most often competes — where the horse has failed to win in five attempts, a record of 0 from 5. Class 5 is far from the glamour end of British racing, so an inability to win consistently at that level suggests the ceiling may be frustratingly low.

Trainer Dylan Cunha operates out of Newmarket — the heartland of British flat racing — and his yard has sent out 45 winners this season, which is a healthy, productive operation. Cunha clearly knows how to get horses ready to win, so the fact that Luminous Warrior has not added to its tally in the seven months since Kempton is not for want of professional support. For now, this is a horse with one good day on its CV and something to prove.
