Lord Abama

What makes Lord Abama slightly interesting is that Thirsk clearly suits him. He has won three of his eleven races there, a 27% win rate that stands out when you set it against his overall record. The track seems to bring out the best in him—whether it is the layout, the surface, or simply the calibre of horse he faces there, he performs noticeably better when he is on Yorkshire turf. He also loves fast, dry ground. On those conditions he has won three of fourteen races (21%), suggesting he is a horse who needs the surface firm beneath his hooves.

Trained by Michael Dods at Piercebridge in County Durham, Lord Abama has been ridden most often by Connor Beasley, though that partnership has yielded just one win from fifteen races together. He was last in the paddock just a day ago, so he remains an active part of the yard's plans. With the yard having sent out forty-three winners already this season, there is clearly competence and form in the stable, but Lord Abama himself has not managed to find the gate since last June. At seven years old and with those recent results running from seventh to ninth place, time is running out for him to land another score.
