He is, quite simply, a Windsor specialist. The Berkshire track suits him in a way few others do: he has won 8 of his 21 races there, a 38% success rate that towers above his overall record. That kind of consistency at one course is rare enough to matter. His most recent win came there on 29 June — two months ago now — and those Windsor victories form the backbone of his career. Away from that happy hunting ground, he is a different proposition entirely.

Ground conditions matter enormously to him. On fast, dry ground, Lequinto wins roughly 2 in every 5 races (7 wins from 15 attempts, a 47% win rate); on anything wetter or softer, he becomes a far more modest prospect. This is the kind of specific detail that drives training decisions, and it explains why his trainer Tony Carroll will be carefully reading the forecast before committing him to any race. Carroll's yard at Cropthorne, Worcestershire, has been among the season's productive operations with 136 winners sent out.

Matthew Lloyd Slater, who has partnered Lequinto most often, has a notably strong record aboard him — 4 wins from 12 races together (33%). That partnership matters. Yet recent form has been unkind: in his last six runs Lequinto has placed twice but not won, including a disappointing last-place finish at Windsor just over a week ago in what was meant to be familiar territory. Carroll noted the horse seemed below form that day and suggested a reassessment would be needed. At nine, Lequinto remains active and useful at the right track and ground, but he is also a horse whose best days may be behind him. He will be worth following when the conditions align, but those conditions need to be exactly right.
